About Our Hearing Center
Gateway Hearing Solutions was founded in 1982 by Robert Gould as Beltone Hearing Aid Center. Over the years, the hearing industry grew and changed and Bob decided his company needed to too, in order to continue to provide the best hearing aid options for his patients. The business then became Gateway Hearing, with access to all hearing aid manufacturers. In 2018, Bob retired and Dr. Holly Puleo, an audiologist that worked with Bob for 20 years, took over the practice. Gateway Hearing Solutions has continued to provide its patients with the latest technology in hearing aids, at affordable prices, and carries on the same dependable service it has become known for.

Dr. Holly Puleo
Audiologist/Owner
Dr. Holly Puleo, Au.D. has been helping individuals improve their hearing and quality of life for more than 30 years. She joined Gateway Hearing Solutions in 1998 and has been dedicated to providing exceptional hearing healthcare to the Rhode Island community ever since. In 2018, Dr. Puleo became the owner of Gateway Hearing Solutions, continuing its tradition of personalized care and clinical excellence.
Dr. Puleo earned her Master’s Degree in Audiology from the University of Rhode Island and later completed her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from Arizona School of Health Sciences. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with Ear, Nose, and Throat physicians throughout RI and MA, gaining extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing and balance disorders.
With a passion for helping people reconnect with the sounds and conversations that matter most, Dr. Puleo specializes in comprehensive hearing evaluations, hearing aid technology, tinnitus management, and personalized treatment plans. She is committed to staying current with the latest advancements in hearing healthcare to ensure her patients receive the most effective solutions available.
Known for her compassionate and patient-centered approach, Dr. Puleo takes pride in building lasting relationships with her patients. She believes that successful hearing care goes beyond technology—it requires listening, understanding, and partnering with each individual to achieve their hearing goals.
Under Dr. Puleo’s leadership, Gateway Hearing Solutions continues to provide trusted, professional hearing healthcare with a focus on improving lives through better hearing.
Lisa Janicki, M.S.
Audiologist
Lisa Janicki has over 30 years of experience in audiology and hearing healthcare. She earned her Master’s Degree in Audiology from the University of Rhode Island, where she attended graduate school alongside Dr. Holly Puleo.
Throughout her career, Lisa has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including ENT practices, and spent 10 years with leading hearing aid manufacturers. Her extensive experience includes training audiologists and hearing healthcare professionals on the latest hearing technology and best practices.
Since 2019, Lisa has led Gateway Hearing Solutions’ East Providence location, where she is dedicated to providing exceptional hearing care and personalized solutions for patients. She is passionate about helping people hear their best and improving their quality of life through personalized, patient-centered care.
Melissa Houlihan, Au.D.
Audiologist
Dr. Melissa Houlihan recently moved to Rhode Island from New Hampshire. She comes to Gateway Hearing with years of audiological experience as she worked at a large ENT clinic for almost a decade before moving into a private hearing aid practice setting. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from Nazareth College and her Clinical Doctorate of Audiology from Northeastern University.
Dr. Houlihan was born with moderate nerve hearing loss in her left ear. She was exposed to the field of audiology by being a patient herself. Now, she loves being able to connect with people and listening to their communication difficulties. Providing someone a tangible solution (hearing aids) and seeing the positive effects it has on their quality of life is extremely rewarding. She has experience providing comprehensive hearing evaluations for patients of all ages, fitting hearing aids and assistive listening devices, and performing diagnostic balance tests for patients suffering from vertigo/disequilibrium.
Dr. Houlihan enjoys spending time with her husband and their two young sons, travelling, and visiting family in New Hampshire.

Doug epitomizes integrity and a solid work ethic with his patients. He has the ability to take the fears or anxieties away for those who are nervous. His patience is unlimited. Doug has been with us for over 27 years and is fully qualified to assist you in any hearing health care need. Doug is able to help budget-minded individuals and can help arrange financing.

Sandra Wear
Office Manager
Sandra is responsible for arranging patient care for our offices. We handle thousands of calls and office visits annually. Sandra has the unique gift of remembering our patients and making them feel comfortable. She has been with us now for over 30 years, becoming an integral part of our system. Whether it’s an issue about insurance benefits, or general hearing advice, Sandra is always happy to help you.
Diana Almeida
Patient Care Coordinator
Diana has over 15 years of customer service experience and is a certified Audiology Assistant. She has always loved helping others and this support role allows her to help patients and teach them how to care for their hearing aids.
Diana is Holly’s niece, and when Holly was in grad school, she would practice pediatric audiology on Diana. This instilled in Diana a deep appreciation for the hearing field and influenced her to pursue a career in audiology.
In her free time, Diana enjoys hiking with her family and pups.
